ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw visited Ahmed Aldhaheri, the Consul-General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Erbil, on Tuesday to convey Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s support to the United Arab Emirates following Monday night’s drone attack against that country.

“The UAE has been with us in our happy and sad times. We as the people of Kurdistan stand with the people of the UAE in this sad moment and hope that such a terrorist attack isn’t repeated,” Khoshnaw told a press conference at the UAE Consulate General.

“Today, I’m here representing the Prime Minister and passing his condolences and strong condemnation of the terrorist attack that targeted the UAE,” Khoshnaw said. “We are here in the UAE Consulate General to pass these messages to the UAE government and people, through his excellency the Consul General of the UAE.”

An industrial site in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, was hit by drone strikes on Monday. The Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen said they had carried out an assault “deep” in the UAE.

The attack killed three people and wounded six after it caused three fuel trucks to explode, sparking a fire near Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Shortly after the attack, Prime Minister Barzani tweeted his “strong” condemnation of “the heinous terror attack” and expressed his sympathies for the injured and families of those who lost their lives.

“I strongly condemn today’s heinous terror attack on Abu Dhabi,” Barzani tweeted. “This dangerous escalation is part of a pattern to destabilize the region.”

“My thoughts are with the injured and the families of those lost,” he tweeted. “The Kurdistan Region stands with the people and government of the UAE.”
