ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Turkish-backed forces resumed attacks on the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near Ain Issa, amidst an ongoing fight between ISIS and the SDF in Hasakah, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Sunday.

The war monitor reported that “the Turkish forces carried out an intensive rocket attack, in the early hours of Sunday, on the vicinity of Ain Issa district in north Al-Raqqa.”

“The rockets hit Olaymat village in the western countryside of Al-Raqqa, leaving four civilians wounded, two of whom have sustained severe injuries.”

Two civilians were killed, and two others injured on Saturday morning in an assault by Turkish-backed forces near Ain Issa.

The SDF said it killed five Turkish-backed rebels in an update on Saturday.

“This attack coincides with other attacks by the Daesh (ISIS) terrorist cells on al-Hasaka prison. Our forces exert efforts to secure the area by preventing Daesh mutineers from escaping,” the SDF said.

Turkey also carried out a drone attack on SDF forces on Jan. 21, killing two near Tal Tamr. The SDF forces were heading towards Hasakah to support the fight against ISIS militants there.

Despite ceasefire agreements between Turkey and Russia and Turkey and the United States since October 2019, Turkish-backed groups and the Turkish army regularly target SDF-held areas. Civilians frequently fall victim to these attacks.

Most of the attacks are concentrated near Tal Tamr, Ain Issa, and areas near northern Aleppo.
