'The time of foreign interferences is over': al-Halbousi
ERBIL – (Kurdistan 24) – Iraqi Parliament Speaker and leader of the Progress party Mohamed al-Halbousi declared on Monday that the time of foreign interferences is over.
"The time of foreign interferences is over," al-Halbousi tweeted. "Today, the mountains and deserts of Iraq are moving to Najaf al-Ashraf [Holy Najaf city] for the discussions of a purely national Iraqi government, neither eastern nor western."

The Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi, and leader of the Azm Alliance Khamis al-Khanjar arrived in the Shiite holy city of Najaf on Monday to hold a joint meeting with Sadrist Movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr over government formation.
This meeting is the result of an initiative launched by Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani to solve Iraq's political deadlock.
KDP President Barzani suggested that Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammad al-Halbousi meet with the head of Sadrist Movement Muqtada al-Sadr to discuss removing obstacles from the political process.
The proposal intends to resolve the existing issues and provide "a suitable and good atmosphere" for Iraq's political process, read the statement from the KDP leader.
"I hope this initiative will have good results in the interest of Iraq and its components," Barzani said in the statement.
The KDP leader also tweeted that it is his "sincere hope" the meeting "will produce positive results and pave the way towards resolving the current problems facing the political process in Iraq."
