ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani is set to meet with a number of world leaders on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, including the United Nations secretary-general and the president of the European Union commission.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani arrived in Germany’s Bavaria region on Thursday, where the 58th session of the Munich Security Conference 2022 is being held.

He is set to meet with the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and President of EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen there, according to his visit’s agenda shared with Kurdistan 24.

The prime minister also plans to meet with many regional officials, including Jordanian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ayman Safadi, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

In his meetings with the leaders, Barzani aims to discuss bilateral relations and security challenges, including international efforts to tackle security threats emanating from terror groups in Iraq, according to the agenda.

According to its organisers, the main themes of this year’s security conference are climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, and threats to global security.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani is also taking part in the conference, his media office announced on Thursday.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein is representing the country at the two-day conference.

“Crucial that our voice is heard in these annual conferences — to tell our story, advocate for the agenda, and exchange views,” Aziz Ahmad, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Prime Minister Barzani, tweeted on Thursday.

“Energy also on the agenda,” he added.
