ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Russian Consul General to Erbil Oleg Levin sent out his Newroz (Kurdish New Year) greetings to the people of the Kurdistan Region through Kurdistan 24 on Tuesday.

“First of all, I would like to express my congratulations to all the people of Kurdistan on the Newroz holidays,” said Levin. “This feast is very important as it represents renewal and determination to achieve more.”

Oleg pointed out that he had the chance to see how Kurdish families are getting together at one place on this feast to light the Newroz fire, dance, and celebrate the Kurdish New Year.

“The Kurdish people, by celebrating Newroz celebrate the coming of spring and the coming of the new Kurdish year (2722),” he said. “Congratulations again, and I wish the Kurdish People prosperity and peace to be preserved in this country.”

Oleg pointed out that it’s his third year in the Kurdistan Region. He says he feels very “comfortable” living in the region and appreciates “the good hospitability here.”

Iraqi and Kurdish leaders and senior foreign diplomats in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region sent their congratulations and greetings to the Kurdish people for their new year.

The Kurdistan Region’s authorities organized large week-long celebrations and festivals in all region’s provinces to celebrate the Kurdish New Year.

Representatives of foreign diplomatic missions and thousands of tourists from Iraq and the neighboring countries participated in these celebrations.
