Germany reaffirms support for Peshmerga forces

In the meeting, the Germans reaffirmed their commitment to support Kurdistan Peshmerga forces, according to a statement from the Peshmerga ministry.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A top legal team from the Ministry of Peshmerga visited Germany on Wednesday, where they discussed the enforcement of bilateral agreements between the two sides.

The ultimate objective of the visit was to discuss the interpretation of the applicable laws between Germany and the Kurdistan Region and the consideration of human rights principles during armed conflicts.

The Peshmerga delegation consisted of Dadyar Hamid, the President of the KRG Military Court of Appeal, Kurdawan Naqshbandi, the President of the First Military Court, and Brigadier Kamal Talib, Director General of the Legal Office.

Their German counterparts were Judges Boris Wentzke and Faulhaber Schafer and other senior legal advisors to the German Federal Ministry of Defense.

In the meeting, the Germans reaffirmed their commitment to support Kurdistan Peshmerga forces, according to a statement from the Peshmerga ministry.

Having been a member of the US-led Coalition to Defeat ISIS, Germany has made numerous contributions to Peshmerga forces through weapon supplies and training.

One of the significant military contributions made by Germany to the Kurdish forces was the provision of an anti-tank missile system, known as MILAN, which had effectively enabled the Peshmerga forces to fight back against ISIS militants, the Region’s top leaders have said on several occasions.
