PM Barzani addresses political stability with UNAMI official
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Volker Perthes, Head of the Independent Strategic Review of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), according to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
Perthes highlighted the purpose of his visit, which is to assess the tasks and work of the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).
In addition to the importance of continuing UNAMI's mission in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of strengthening its political role.
Barzani praised UNAMI for its work in Iraq, specifically its support for political stability, democratic principles and institutions, and the federal system.
Barzani also thanked UNAMI for its help in implementing the country’s Article 140 in its constitution, and in protecting the constitutional rights of minority communities.
As I said to @volkerperthes today, Iraq still needs @UNIraq assistance. Among other functions, it provides KRG and Baghdad a trusted platform with the technical support necessary to resolve our differences. pic.twitter.com/MgB7NPrTKH— Masrour Barzani (@masrourbarzani) November 15, 2023
