ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday received a British military delegation led by Mar. Martin ‘Sammy’ Sampson, UK Defense Senior Advisor Middle East and North Africa.
During the meeting, security and military cooperation between the two sides was discussed.
One of the topics of the meeting was war and conflict in the Middle East. Both sides agreed that maintaining peace and stability in the region and preventing war in Iraq are of the utmost importance.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of protecting and securing the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people, respecting the legal and constitutional structure of the region, and strengthening the federal system of Iraq.
Furthermore, the Premier emphasized that the international community should play an active role in resolving the issue between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi government.
As an integral part of the 86-member Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, the UK has been assisting the Kurdish and Iraqi forces in the fight against the terror group, whose self-styled caliphate was brought down in 2017 in the country.
A number of Kurdish cadres have been provided opportunities by London to study at the UK’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, including two female Peshmerga officers.
