PKK senior militant killed in Syria: MIT

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) claimed to have killed a senior member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Syria, the Turkish state-owned Anadolu Agency reports.

The PKK senior member was allegedly responsible for supplying heavy weapons to the group, intelligence sources said Thursday.

Fahrettin Tolun, codenamed Hayri Serhat, who was wanted with an interpol red notice, was allegedly killed in the town of Rmelan region in northern Syria, reported Anadolu.

The PKK has not confirmed the death of Tolun.

Türkiye (Turkey) has stepped up targeted killings and drone strikes against the PKK and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in both Syria and Iraq.

More than 40,000 people on both sides have been killed since the conflict between PKK and the Turkish army began in 1984.

In addition to drone and airstrikes, Türkiye has carried out ground operations in the province of Duhok in the Kurdistan Region.

According to the most recent data update from Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the Turkish army has executed 101 drone strikes since the beginning of 2023, leading to 82 deaths, and injuring another 90 persons.
