Terror attacks leave 11 dead in Iraq’s Diyala Governorate

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The western Iraqi governorate of Diyala was twice attacked on Thursday afternoon, targeting the village of Omraniyah in Al-Muqdadiya district, according to the government’s Iraqi News Agency (INA). 

The first attack involved a vehicle explosion caused by an improvised explosive device (IED). Later that night, snipers surrounding the village began shooting bystanders at the site of the explosion.

The attacks reportedly resulted in the deaths of 11 people, with others critically injured.

No group has yet to claim responsibility for the attacks.

Diyala Governor Muthanna Al-Tamimi said that the “safe Al-Muqdadiya district is bleeding and I pray for the families of the martyrs to be inspired with patience and solace, and to grant the injured a speedy recovery.”

The Deputy Commander of Iraq’s Joint Operations Command (JOC), Lieutenant General Qais al-Muhammadawi, condemned the attacks, stating “the spilling of Iraqi blood cannot be tolerated, and the security forces will pursue those who committed this cowardly act.”

Al-Muhammadawi later inspected the site of the incident as part of the formation of an investigation team looking into the matter.
