PM Barzani discusses enhancing ties with outgoing Australian envoy

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday discussed enhancing bilateral ties with outgoing Australian Ambassador to Iraq Paula Ganly in Erbil, according to a statement.

Barzani extended his gratitude for the ambassador’s efforts in developing relations between Erbil-Canberra and wished the diplomat success in her new endeavor, according to a statement from the premier’s office.

Ambassador Ganly expressed her country’s willingness to develop ties with Iraq’s Kurdistan Region in investment and trade fields, per the press release.

The officials also discussed that Kurdistan Region’s financial entitlements should be paid along with the salaries of public servants, so the rights of Kurdish employees are no longer violated, it added.

The KRG has officially requested Baghdad to send additional funds to cover the remaining months of the year until the amendment of the budget law, which was adopted in June 2023. 

An amount of 700 billion IQD ($538 million) is supposed to be transferred monthly to the Kurdistan Region per an agreement that has been previously reached between the two governments.
