KRG Council of Ministers to discuss provincial councils’ issues

The meeting, recommended by the Prime Minister, will discuss the issue of provincial councils in response to the Federal Supreme Court's decision on September 24, 2023, which temporarily suspended Law No. (2) of 2019, amending the Provincial Law of 2009.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Council of Ministers is set to convene on Wednesday to discuss provincial councils’ issues.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani will chair the weekly session in the presence of his deputy Qubad Talabani in Erbil, according to a KRG statement.

The meeting, recommended by the Prime Minister, will discuss the issue of provincial councils in response to the Federal Supreme Court's decision on September 24, 2023, which temporarily suspended Law No. (2) of 2019, amending the Provincial Law of 2009.

The Federal Supreme Court is the highest judicial authority in Iraq. It was established by a ministerial law in 2005. The Iraqi parliament held its 45th regular session of the first legislative session for the third year of its fourth election on March 18, 2021, announcing the first amendment to Law No. 30 of 2005 to the Federal Supreme Court and the court's new composition.
