ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Mohammed Shukri, the Chairman of the Kurdistan Board of Investment, on Thursday stated that the Prime Minister Masrur Barzani has plans to turn Halabja into a special area for investment and the province of Halabja has been exempted from previous guidelines. “PM Barzani’s decision will be implemented in the next week” Shukri added.

While in Halabja, Mr. Shukri highlighted that following the directive from PM Barzani, as well as receiving requests from the governor of Halabja province and the Union of Investors in Halabja, it has been asked to facilitate the process of investment in Halabja province.

“During his visit to Halabja, PM Barzani has approved of all the recommendations,” he added.

Furthermore, Shukri underlined that PM Masrur Barzani has assigned the Board of Investment to convey his approval of the recommendations. “The Prime Minister has exempted Halabja province from all the previous guidelines, in particular the service charges of mortgage fees, renting fees, allocation of plot of land, and cost of projects below five hundred thousand US dollars,” he clarified.

Mohammed Shukri emphasized that this decision is advantageous for the residents of Halabja and the decision will arrive today to the General Directory of Investment in Halabja and will be implemented by the next week.

“Investors in the Kurdistan Region can now have their projects in Halabja, in particular projects in sectors related to industry, agriculture, and tourism. Halabja is considered to be a special area for investment in Kurdistan Region,” he noted.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday in a ceremony laid the foundation stone for the Halabja-Tuwaqut-Qalija road and the Tuwaqut Bridge.

During the ceremony, where the Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani also attended, Prime Minister Barzani delivered remarks, addressing the people of Halabja. “People of this region have suffered considerably and have laid their lives for Kurdistan. Halabja is a symbol of sacrifice and suffering of the entire Kurdistan. It is, therefore, regrettable that the people of this area have not been provided with the services that they so deserve. We, and all the government officials, are indebted to the people of Halabja, all the relatives of the martyrs, and all those that brutally perished in the Anfal campaign.”
