PM Barzani encourages local workforce, increasing local production in Halabja

Boosting and revival of local produce, using the local workforce and stepping toward self-reliance in all sectors, is the ultimate goal of the Kurdistan Region strategy.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Masrur Barzani, the Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region, on Thursday visited the olive oil production factory in Halabja province. The factory is one of a series of Rasan projects that consists of three strategically important projects.

The projects are parts of Kurdistan Regional Government’s strategy to encourage and pay attention to local production, facilitation of trade, supporting tourism and investment in the province of Halabja. Boosting and revival of local produce, using the local workforce and stepping toward self-reliance in all sectors, is the ultimate goal of the Kurdistan Region strategy.

In his first visit to Halabja province as Prime Minister, PM Barzani on Thursday in a ceremony laid the foundation stone for the various important projects, and visited a series of projects by the Rasan Group.  

Rasan Group has three strategically important projects, one of which is the livestock farm and breeding project for Saanen goats, founded on 16 acres of land. After its finalization, the project could have the ability to raise and breed up to thousand Saanen goats. The project is among the most important efforts to produce and provide fresh milk to Kurdistan's market.

The other two projects include Rasan Olive Oil factory and food and oil complex. The two projects are founded on 340 acres of land.

The production factory of olive oil is capable of producing 120 tons of olive oil, and with the other projects of Rasan group, has been able to provide more than 250 job opportunities for the local workforce.

The projects that have been operational in Halabja province, and those visited by the PM Barzani, are considered to be of strategic importance and have been strongly supported by the Kurdistan Region Government. All the efforts have been made by the Kurdistan Region Government to facilitate and encourage local production, trade, tourism and investment in Halabja.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday in a ceremony laid the foundation stone for the Halabja-Tuwaqut-Qalija road and the Tuwaqut Bridge.

During the ceremony, where the Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani also attended, Prime Minister Barzani delivered remarks, addressing the people of Halabja. “People of this region have suffered considerably and have laid their lives for Kurdistan. Halabja is a symbol of sacrifice and suffering of the entire Kurdistan. It is, therefore, regrettable that the people of this area have not been provided with the services that they so deserve. We, and all the government officials, are indebted to the people of Halabja, all the relatives of the martyrs, and all those that brutally perished in the Anfal campaign.”
