Reaffirming relationship between the US and KRG was ‘strong message’: British MP

The British Parliamentarian emphasized that it’s important that the Kurdistan Region prime minister and President are seen on the world stage.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – British Member of Parliament Nadhim Zahawi on Wednesday told Kurdistan24 that “the reaffirming of the relationship between the United States of America and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) was a strong message,” referring to Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s visit to Washington DC.

Regarding the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court ruling to remove quota seats from Kurdistan Region parliament said “that decisions like this put at risk those hard fought for freedoms for Kurds but also for those minorities in Iraq that at a time of instability in the region. They need more support not less support and more representation not less representation.”

He also stated that the illegal attacks on Kurdistan Region must be condemned and “it's good to see the prime minister of Iraq Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani condemning those attacks but more importantly I think that we saw prime minister Masrour Barzani was with Antony Blinken in Washington DC yesterday.”

The British Parliamentarian emphasized that it’s important that the Kurdistan Region prime minister and President are seen on the world stage.  

“Kurdistan and the Kurdish people were the front line for humanity not just for the United Kingdom but for the whole world which is why we helped train the Peshmerga” he noted and added “it's important that we demonstrate how important that relationship is between Kurdistan and the United Kingdom and of course our American Allies did the same thing. Antony Blinken talked about the shared sacrifice of the American people and the Kurdish people in fights of terrorism.”
