Kurdistan Region’s President met with Armenian President

Both parties insisted that the relation between the Kurdistan Region and Armenia could improve and expand in terms of trade, investment, private sector, medicine and tourism.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region’s President Nechirvan Barzani received the President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan on Thursday. During the meeting, both parties discussed the opportunities in expanding relations between Armenia and both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Both parties insisted that the relation between the Kurdistan Region and Armenia could improve and expand in terms of trade, investment, private sector, medicine and tourism.

Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region Qubad Talabani and a number of KRG ministers also participated in the meeting. The meeting focused on developing the economic relations between the Republic of Armenia with both Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Other major discussion points revolved around the current status quo in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region relations with the Federal government, and the situation of ethnic and religious components in the Kurdistan Region.

Creating the chance of having direct flights between Armenia and the Kurdistan Region and Iraq was another topic of discussion between both parties.

The President of Armenia arrived in Baghdad on a formal visit to Iraq on Monday Feb. 26. President Khachaturyan had met with senior officials in Baghdad, and in an extension to his visit arrived in Erbil, Kurdistan Region on Thursday.

The statement from the office of the Kurdistan Region’s President stated that the recent developments in the region were also part of the discussions.
