Foreign missions in Erbil welcome Kurdistan Region President’s announcement of parliamentary elections

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The consulates of the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy and Netherlands on Sunday welcomed Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani’s announcement of June 10 for parliamentary elections.

“We support free and fair elections, which are vital for a healthy democracy and the future of the #Iraqi_Kurdistan_Region,” the US Consulate General in Erbil wrote in a post on X.

Meanwhile, the British Consulate General wrote on X that elections are essential for Kurdistan Region people to express their voice.

“Fair and free elections are an important element to strengthen the democratic stability of the Kurdistan Region and the legitimacy of its political system," the Consulate General of Germany in Erbil wrote on X.

Also, the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Erbil wrote that Free and fair elections are as oxygen to a fire for any democracy.

“The holding of free elections is in the interest of all," the French consulate general said in a post on Facebook.

Furthermore, Italy's Consulate General encouraged all parties to “accomplish with a smooth, free and fair process.”
