EU supports Kurdish people, says EU diplomat

“The Kurdish people deserve their rights in the context of the Constitution of Iraq,” he stressed.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Thomas Seiler, on Monday told Kurdistan24 that the European Union has been and is supporting the Kurdish people not only in Iraq but in particular in Iraq in the Kurdistan region and we will continue doing this.”

The EU Ambassador to Iraq also stated that it is very important that the Kurdish people have their rights and they “do what we can to make this clear to the government in Baghdad.”

“The Kurdish people deserve their rights in the context of the Constitution of Iraq,” he stressed.

Regarding the recent Iraqi Federal Supreme Court ruling to remove quota seats from the Kurdistan Region Parliament, the diplomat noted that “the verdict by the federal Supreme Court is very fresh. Our experts at home are studying this.”

Speaking of the Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections he underscored that they have “pointed to the need for these elections for quite some time so from that point of view yes we took note of this decision yesterday and I very much hope to see these elections happen.”
