Efforts should be made to ensure fair treatment for Halabja: leader of Progress Party

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Mohamed al-Halbousi, the leader of the Progress (Al-Taqadum) Party, on Saturday in a post on X said that “efforts should be made to ensure fair treatment for Halabja and its bereaved residents, and that the martyrs of Halabja and Iraq fall into the mercy of God.”

“On the 36th anniversary of the chemical attack on Halabja, we pay tribute to the martyrs of the city,” al-Halbousi added.

Every year, the Kurdistan Region commemorates the anniversary of the 1988 Halabja chemical attacks, which killed 5,000 civilians, including women and children, while injuring 10,000 people.

People across the Kurdistan Region and the world commemorate the day in memory of the victims every year on March 16.
