PM Barzani, US Ambassador discuss parliamentary elections

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Saturday discussed the need to hold the Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections, with US Ambassador to Iraq, Alina L. Romanowski, according to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

They also addressed the MyAccount project, the need to respect the Kurdistan Region as a federal entity, and the provision of the Kurdistan Region’s financial entitlements through the KRG.

“Prime Minister Masrour Barzani reiterated that the Kurdistan Region has met all its constitutional duties, therefore its constitutionally defined rights must no longer be violated,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the US Ambassador expressed his support to resolve the Erbil-Baghdad disputes through dialogue and based on the Iraqi constitution.

The premier emphasized that KRG has been calling for elections for two years, in a process that is lawful, legitimate, and constitutional to ensure fair, transparent, and impartial elections.

Furthermore, both sides agreed on the need to address challenges and barriers to the election process.
