KDP President Masoud Barzani receives French Consul General in Erbil

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani on Monday received Yann Braem, the French Consul General in Erbil, in Erbil’s Pirmam district, according to a statement from Barzani Headquarters.

The French Consul General in Erbil said that his country favors a strong and stable Kurdistan Region and the tensions between Kurdish political parties should be resolved.

Braem also expressed his country's readiness to assist the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in resolving disputes with the Iraqi government.

KDP President Barzani praised the role of France in supporting the cause of the Kurdish people and described the relations between the Kurdish people and the French people as historic and unprecedented.

President Barzani said that the KDP has been the founder of legitimacy and elections in the region. He also stated that the KDP made every effort to hold parliamentary elections on time for two years.

“Depriving ethnic and religious communities of the elections, depriving hundreds of thousands of voters of voting, depriving Halabja of the number of seats and imposing improper measures in the elections, makes the elections do not express the true voice of the Kurdish people,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, President Barzani noted that the KDP is in favor of holding free elections without interference.

Moreover, he called on the international community to help monitor and guarantee free and genuine elections that serve the voice of the Kurdish people.
