ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – On Tuesday, The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP)’s President Massoud Barzani received Jaco Beerends, Consul General of the Netherlands, and Klaus Streicher, Consul General of Germany in Erbil, at hometown of Pirmam.

According to a statement issued by Barzani's headquarters, the meeting focused on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) parliamentary elections and the positions and comments of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) regarding the elections.

The statement highlighted the importance of holding elections in the Kurdistan Region, with both the Dutch and German consuls expressing their countries' support for conducting fair elections that truly represent the face of democracy in the region. They pledged assistance to relevant parties in overcoming political crises.

President Barzani commended the Netherlands and Germany for their support of the Kurdish people's cause and underscored that "The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has been at the forefront of legitimizing and conducting elections in Kurdistan. Over the past two years, the KDP has exerted every effort to ensure timely elections.”

KDP President further remarked, "However, certain entities have resorted to external interference and the Federal Court to disrupt fair and transparent elections. They have marginalized ethnic and religious communities, disenfranchised over 400,000 voters, and implemented flawed procedures and mechanisms. Such actions undermine the true voice of the Kurdish people."

Addressing another aspect of the meeting, President Barzani reiterated the Kurdistan Democratic Party's commitment to facilitating free and fair elections without external interference or preconceived agendas. He stressed the importance of resolving all technical deficiencies and constitutional/legal violations related to the election process. This, he emphasized, is essential to ensuring that the electoral process reflects the genuine will and voice of the Kurdish people, thereby serving democracy and the legitimacy of regional institutions.
