ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Approximately 75,000 divorces are registered each year in Iraq, according to Ahmad Jassim, a judge of the Iraqi Social Status Court.

“A record number of divorce cases have been filed across the provinces, causing us to face a major crisis,” the judge stated.

"There is a need for a large-scale campaign in Iraq to educate society, not to ignore families and social media users," he added.

Statistics from the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq indicate that Baghdad has the highest number of marriages and divorces, while Muthanna and Dhi Qar have the lowest numbers.

The increase in divorce cases in Iraq can be attributed to various factors, such as changing societal norms, economic pressures, and the impact of social media. These factors have contributed to a shift in values and priorities, leading to higher rates of marital dissatisfaction and ultimately, divorce.
