Iraqi Prime Minister reveals meeting agenda in Washington ahead of departure

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Ahead of his departure for the United States, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized the significance of his visit amidst a complex regional landscape marked by escalating tensions and atrocities against the Palestinian people.

He also underscored the growing danger in escalation within the Middle East region.

Stating that the timing of the visit is crucial given the current situation in the region, Prime Minister Sudani underlined the need to elevate Iraqi-American relations to a new level within the framework of activating the principles outlined in the strategic agreement. He emphasized that this aligns with the government's agenda for economic and financial reforms.

During his visit, Sudani intends to engage in discussions with US President Joe Biden on regional dynamics and tensions, with a focus on collaborative efforts to de-escalate conflicts and maintain global stability.

Additionally, talks between Sudani and Biden will include deliberations on the joint efforts of the Iraqi High Military Committee and the international coalition, aimed at establishing a timeline for concluding the coalition's mission.

Sudani revealed plans for private meetings with key US officials, including the Secretary of Defense, Treasury, National Security Advisor, as well as representatives from the US Chamber of Commerce and senior executives from oil and industry companies.

"This visit underscores our commitment to a sustained strategic partnership based on mutual respect and the safeguarding of Iraqi territory's security and sovereignty," Sudani remarked.

Accompanied by a delegation comprising government ministers, parliamentarians, advisors, and representatives from the private sector, Sudani expressed intentions to discuss cooperation in various sectors such as education, security, and beyond.

Furthermore, Sudani announced that the visit will feature the inaugural meeting of the Joint High Committee for Coordination, aimed at activating strategic agreements across multiple domains including energy, finance, banking, transportation, anti-corruption efforts, and repatriation of Iraqi assets abroad.

The forthcoming discussions between Iraqi and US officials hold promise for advancing bilateral cooperation and addressing regional challenges in a collaborative manner.
