He also said that “the region has suffered a great deal and the people of Kurdistan have suffered a great deal. All their experience is through the pain of conflict.”

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Alistair Burt, Former Minister of State for Community and Social Care of the United Kingdom, on Wednesday told Kurdistan24 that “Kurdistan [Region] has a strong identity. It has an identity that transcends political difficulties and everyone in the UK political establishment is aware of the politics of the region.”

“We know that as with any political group, there are differences and debates and discussions but being Kurdish is something that everyone relates to that's very important and when people can find something that they can all belong to that gives them an identity that transcends the things that they have that make them different,” Burt stated.

Regarding recent conflicts in the Middle East, the British official pointed out that recent conflicts are extremely concerning and the risk of conflicts in the region is intensifying.

“What my experience over the years taught me was that conflict usually resolves very little unless the root causes of conflict are dealt with,” Burt stressed.

He also said that “the region has suffered a great deal and the people of Kurdistan have suffered a great deal. All their experience is through the pain of conflict.”

“Those who supply the militias, those who support the militias, they have to be part of the solution to ending the conflict and again the voices of those who have suffered should be very strong,” he added.
