ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Friday in a post on X condemned the Khor Mor gas field attack and sent his condolences to the four civilians killed.

“I strongly condemn tonight’s terror attack on Khor Mor. My thoughts and condolences are with the four civilians killed, and I wish the wounded a swift recovery. I have instructed the Ministry of Health to provide all necessary support,” Prime Minister Barzani said.

The premier also added, “Attacks on energy hubs that power millions of homes in the Kurdistan Region and Iraqi provinces are indefensible. These attacks also sabotage efforts by Erbil and Baghdad to develop the energy sector. They happen with disturbing frequency and amount to war crimes.”

Moreover, he noted that they stand ready to “work with Baghdad to do more together to put a stop to this.”

"I urge the federal government to credibly investigate, hold the perpetrators accountable, and provide lasting assurances to our people. According to the initial information the attacks come from a nearby region within Iraq," Barzani emphasized.

Furthermore, he pointed out that they "expect swift action from Baghdad to not allow these terrorists to menace us at will. It must control the lawless groups that harm us all."

Ramik Ramazan, the governor of Chamchamal district, told Kurdistan24 on Friday that a drone at around 6:45 pm struck the Khor Mor gas field.

The strike resulted in the killing of four Yemeni workers in the gas field.

The Khor Mor gas field is estimated to contain over 7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves.

Dana Gas operates in the Khor Mor gas field. With their partner Crescent Petroleum, Dana Gas announced in early 2022 that they produced 552 million cubic feet of natural gas daily.

The company plans to increase gas production from the Khor Mor gas field by 55 percent.

Dana Gas is an energy company based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is one of the largest private-sector natural gas companies in the Middle East and North Africa.

In addition to the Khor Mor gas field, there are several other gas fields in the Kurdistan region that are operated by various oil companies. These include the Bina Bawi gas field, operated by Genel Energy, and the Chemchemal gas field, operated by Gulf Keystone Petroleum. The region is also home to smaller fields such as the Piramagrun gas field, which is operated by the KRG.
