PM Masrour Barzani in Baghdad "to bring renewed certainty"

PM Masrour Barzani says he is in Baghdad to resolve the issues between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government on the basis of the constitution. The Iraqi National Security Advisor said Masrour Barzani's visit is a "golden opportunity."

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Region met with Iraqi National Security Advisor Qassem Al-Araji on Thursday, May 30, in Baghdad.

In a post on social media Platform (x), the Kurdistan Region's Prime Minister explained the reason for his visit to baghdad as a way "to bring renewed certainty to this important relationship."

"We must resolve our differences through dialogue and understanding to prioritize cooperation and economic growth," the post continued.

The meeting underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government.

 Prime Minister Masrour Barzani Visits Baghdad

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani arrived in Baghdad on Thursday morning to engage in discussions with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, other federal government officials, and leaders of Iraqi political parties.

At the start of his visit, Barzani met with Iraqi National Security Advisor Qassem Al-Araji, and the two addressed questions from journalists during a press conference.

"It is very normal for us to come to Baghdad to meet and discuss with all responsible officials to resolve the remaining issues. Our first meeting was with Mr. Qassem Al-Araji, the Iraqi National Security Advisor, who is our dear brother," Barzani said.

"We will meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and other officials of the Iraqi government and political parties to discuss some of the problems that remain between Erbil and Baghdad," he added.

Another purpose of his visit is to "strengthen the good relations that are now on their way."

In an statment posted on social media platform X, Prime Minister Barzani also reitirated that there will be no tolerance towards destablizing factors and that "We will not allow any group to destabilize our neighbors."

"Moreover, terrorism remains a forgotten threat. That requires stronger security coordination," he underscored.

Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of safeguarding civilian infrastuctures against any attacks and called to "stop further attacks on civilian infrastructure."

On Tuesday, May 14, the Iraqi Ministry of Finance deposited 168 billion dinars, and on Wednesday, May 15, deposited 443 billion dinars as the April salary for some ministries and institutions of the Kurdistan Region in the Erbil Branch of the Central Bank of Iraq.

However, the salaries for the Peshmerga Ministry and security forces have not yet been sent.

"We will discuss this, and it will be resolved, God willing," Barzani stated.

Al-Araji: Understanding Between Baghdad and Erbil Will Strengthen Iraq

Iraqi National Security Advisor Qassem Al-Araji emphasized, "The understanding between Baghdad and Erbil will give more strength to Iraq; we have many things in common, and we will work to implement the constitution and pay the financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region."

Regarding the upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, Al-Araji highlighted, "The meeting is a golden opportunity to resolve all issues between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government."
