Kurdistan Region's President Nechirvan Barzani meets Iranian delegation to discuss bilateral relations

The delegation included governors of the Iranian provinces bordering the Kurdistan Region and several representatives from the region in the Iranian Parliament.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On the evening of Thursday, June 6, 2024, Kurdistan Region's President H.E. Nechirvan Barzani received a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The delegation included governors of the Iranian provinces bordering the Kurdistan Region and several representatives from the region in the Iranian Parliament.

During the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iran, emphasizing the importance of expanding commercial activities, transportation, and transport through joint border crossings.

The discussions included proposals to increase the number of direct flights and expand medical and tourism cooperation.

Additionally, there was a focus on establishing a free trade zone to enhance economic ties.

Both parties acknowledged the many commonalities between the Kurdistan Region and Iran, expressing a mutual desire to strengthen all areas of relations and joint cooperation.

The Iranian delegation expressed gratitude for the facilities provided to visitors traveling to holy shrines in southern Iraq through the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting was attended by relevant authorities from the Kurdistan Region, the Iranian Consul General in Erbil, and the Iranian Consul General in Sulaimani.
