Eight million tourists expected to visit Kurdistan Region this year

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Last year, more than 7.5 million tourists visited the tourist destinations of the Kurdistan Region, and the number is expected to surpass eight million this year, according to the Kurdistan Region General Board of Tourism.

The board also added that the Kurdistan Region attracts more tourists every year due to its stability, which attracts more tourists.

Due to the agenda of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) ninth cabinet, the tourism sector is developing annually.

Ibrahim Abdul-Majid, the spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region General Board of Tourism, told Kurdistan24 that they have an eight-year plan to develop the tourism infrastructure in the Kurdistan Region and provide a large number of job opportunities.

Despite hurdles such as the war on ISIS and the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kurdistan Region’s tourism industry has expanded, with six million tourists visiting in 2022. In 2023, seven million tourists were recorded, equaling a 16% increase from the previous year.
