KDP President Masoud Barzani, new UK Consul General discuss UK-Kurdistan Region ties

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani on Sunday discussed UK-Kurdistan Region ties with Andrew Beasley, new UK Consul General in Erbil.

Deputy Head of UK Mission in Baghdad Rosy Cave also attended the meeting.

KDP President Masoud Barzani emphasized the friendly and historical relations between the Kurdish people and the UK, hoping that they would continue and be further developed.

The UK Consul General expressed his readiness to continue and improve the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and the UK. He also thanked President Barzani and spoke in praise of the relations between the Kurdistan Region and the UK.

They also discussed the political situation in Iraq and the region, as well as the threat of terrorism.

London and Erbil enjoy close diplomatic and economic ties. Nearly 200 British companies currently work in the Kurdistan Region in various fields.

As an integral part of the Coalition against ISIS, the UK has provided training and air support to the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in the fight against the terror group whose caliphate was toppled in 2017.
