KDP President Barzani meets Iraqi leaders to resolve key issues
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Wednesday, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani held a significant meeting with leaders of the Coordination Framework in Baghdad, reaching agreements to address ongoing issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government in compliance with Iraqi law and the constitution.
The meeting took place at the residence of Ammar al-Hakim, leader of the al-Hikma Movement, where President Barzani discussed several critical issues with the Coordination Framework’s constituent parties. Barzani remarked, "There has been an opening in the political environment in Iraq.”
Both parties agreed to continue resolving outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government through lawful and constitutional means.
They emphasized the necessity of uniting on national positions concerning Iraq's interests and maintaining efforts to resolve the election of the Iraqi parliament speaker, alongside aiding relevant political forces in this process.
Additionally, President Barzani conferred with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and other Iraqi leaders to discuss ongoing coordination between Baghdad and Erbil. They underscored the importance of addressing all unresolved issues.
An official statement from Barzani Headquarters highlighted al-Hakim’s warm welcome, describing Barzani’s visit as "important and historic," and acknowledged the shared struggle and sacrifices of Kurds and Shiites against oppression and dictatorship.
Barzani expressed his pleasure over his visit to Baghdad and his meetings with Iraqi political parties, noting that the current political climate in Iraq presents a favorable opportunity for dialogue and resolution of issues.
He underscored the significance of the constitution as a robust foundation for overcoming problems and obstacles.
Discussions during the meeting also covered Iraq's political situation, oil issues, the budget, financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region, and the election of the House of Representatives speaker.
Barzani reaffirmed his support for Prime Minister al-Sudani’s cabinet, emphasizing that it was formed based on constitutional principles and agreements between parties.
The meeting concluded with a decision to establish a joint mechanism for ongoing communication and coordination between the two sides to address past problems and future developments.
