ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The government system in the United Kingdom of Great Britain is democratic, i.e. the British people to vote for candidates to make the government. However, Monarchy rules the UK.
In general, in the UK there are Monarchy, House of Lords and House of Commons. The Monarchy is the head of the state, who is now His Majesty King Charles III, usually the royal family do not get involved in the politics.
The House of Commons and the House of Lords work together to make the laws.
There is no written constitution in the UK, but it rather depends on the outcomes of the previous law, also the time when the state is living.
The general election takes place every 5 years, a person who can vote must be: 18 years old and over, got registered on electoral registration, British or Irish, a resident to live at a UK address, and not legally excluded from voting.
The Citizens who are abroad can vote, depending on their previous polling registration in the UK. Once the polling card posted to the resident’s address, which has her/his Number and full name, they can go to their local polling station, must carry an ID, then to cast their vote.
Peers and prisoners cannot vote.
In the UK Parliament there are 650 Members (MPs). The winner government should win at least 320 seats.
An individual can cast the vote once for a candidate, and in the local constituency, so the candidate with the most votes becomes the local MP to the area s/he won most votes.
In the North London Kier Starmer with his wife cast their votes, and Rishi Sunak with his wife were in north Yorkshire.
On Thursday July 04, 2024 till 10:00 pm voting is on, according to the official sources Millions participated in the voting process. The two major political parties in the UK went under intensive election campaign.
