UK New MP’s First Meeting on Tuesday
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - After Labour’s landslide victory on July 4th against the Tories, the new UK’s Prime Minister Kier Starmer who vowed “to serve the whole UK as the new Labour PM”, as well with his famous quote “Country first, Party second" PM gave a statement after he was appointed by His Majesty the King on Friday July the 5th.
It is well-known about the Labour party who focuses on the public services in the country. However, the economy went under drastic changes in which the Conservatives held to the accountability for it stayed for 14 years leading the UK Parliament.
Tory lost the general election to Labour by gaining only 121 seats, but Lab won 412 seats out of 460 wholesome seats in the parliament.
The new Parliament holds its first meeting on Tuesday July the 9th where the members of both Houses (Commons and Lords) return to the usual place Westminster. The Speaker gets elected by the MPs in this meeting.
By now, MPs must’ve received a white enveloped post from the Returning Officer because as soon as they were declared the winner at their individual constituency counts, the admin process launched. The envelop contains a welcome letter from the House of Commons and the informative booklet about what to do when they first arrive in the parliament building.
The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority IPSA would have sent its letters to the MPs as well, that highlighting the details about the elected MP’s pay, pensions, expenses and general guides to staff payments.
The new UK government cabinet is already formed under the Labour party’s leading, and the government named the new cabinet.
It is worth-mentioning that for the first time, a female becomes the chancellor who is in charge of the treasury department in the kingdom.
Also, Alan Campbell has become the Chief Whip who is responsible for making sure Labour MPs vote the way Labour's leadership want them to.
