ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Erbil governor's office announced on Monday, August 5, 2024, the completion of the project to replace the 1500 mm GRP line with a carbon steel line in the Ifraz 3 transmission line.

This upgrade will add 2,000 cubic meters of water per hour to the city's supply.

The Ifraz 3 water project, which provides clean water to 40% of Erbil's population, had been operating below capacity due to a breakage in the GRP water pipeline near the Ifraz 3 water treatment plant.

The plant had been running at 80% capacity, using five pumps, each capable of transporting 2,000 cubic meters of water per hour, totaling 10,000 cubic meters per hour.

The governor's office stated that the new carbon steel line will enable the Ifraz 3 project to operate at full capacity. Alongside this replacement, another plant within the Ifraz 3 water treatment project, with a capacity of 500 cubic meters per hour, has been repaired and brought into operation.

This combined effort will deliver a total of 60,000 cubic meters of water per day to Erbil.

To facilitate the connection of the new line, the project will be suspended for 34 hours starting from 12 noon on August 5, 2024. The Erbil Governorate has issued a warning to citizens about the temporary suspension.
