KDP President Barzani, US Ambassador to Iraq discuss key issues on regional politics, security

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Monday afternoon, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani welcomed Alina Romanowski, the United States Ambassador to Iraq, in Pirmam. The meeting was also attended by Steve Bitner, the US Consul General in Erbil.

During their discussions, Ambassador Romanowski highlighted the significant outcomes of President Barzani’s recent visit to Baghdad, noting its strong influence on the perspectives of various Iraqi political parties.

The two sides exchanged views on Iraq’s current political landscape, with particular attention to the upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary elections scheduled for October.

Both parties emphasized the importance of ensuring that election campaigns are conducted in a free and tension-free atmosphere.

Another key focus of the meeting was the ongoing presence of coalition forces in Iraq. President Barzani and Ambassador Romanowski also shared concerns about the persistent threat of terrorism, which continues to endanger both Iraq and the broader region.
