ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Society for Defending Press Freedom in Iraq has condemned the media team of the Iraqi presidency for blocking Kurdistan24's coverage, calling it a violation of the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of the press. The association urged government bodies to facilitate media access to events, end harassment, and uphold the protections enshrined in the Iraqi Constitution.

The incident occurred during the official welcoming ceremony for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday morning. Upon arrival, Pezeshkian was received by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani before meeting with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid at the Republican Palace.

Kurdistan24 was barred from covering the ceremony, sparking criticism from press freedom advocates.

The Press Freedom Society emphasized the need for government agencies to respect journalists' rights and ensure unrestricted media coverage at public events, underscoring the importance of transparency in a democratic society.
