WASHINGTON, United States (Kurdistan24) – In a recent panel arranged by the Atlantic Council, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that Peshmerga plays an imperative role in defeating the Islamic State (IS).

He added that NATO members and its allies will continue to provide military training to the Kurdish forces.

The Kurdistan Region shares over 1,000 kilometers (622 miles) of its border with IS.

Peshmerga has been one of the most efficient ground force in defeating the terrorist group. However, they continue to lack military and financial support from the international coalition as Kurdish officials often call for more weapons and ammunition.
