Senior IS leaders killed near Mosul

Counterterrorism forces of Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) announced the death of a senior Islamic State (IS) leader.

The Kurdistan Counterterrorism forces gathered information about the location of the IS leaders. Ali al-Aswad, IS’s Head of Divan Intelligence alongside with two other senior leaders were killed in a Coalition airstrike in the village of Tel Azba, 20 km south of IS-held Mosul.

The deceased IS senior leader was Abu Bakir al-Baghdadi’s Security Adivsor.

According to the KRSC statement released on Wednesday, two other IS leaders, Abu AbdulRahman Deputy Chief of Diwan and Qusay al-Rawy, the mayor of Dibs in Kirkuk province, were killed in the airstrike.

On April 18, in a joint operation between the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) General Directorate of Counterterrorism and the US Special Forces, a senior Islamic State (IS) leader Salman Abid Shabib al-Jibburi and two of his assistants were killed in Mosul.

Furthermor, on March 31, Kurdish counterterrorism captured Malik Ra’aat Khalaf Jadou’, an influential member of the extremist group, who played a significant role in terrorist attacks inside and around Kirkuk.

On March 14, Mohamad Jamal Khweis, an American-Palestinian IS member surrendered himself to Peshmerga in the city of Sinjar (Shingal).

Previously, on Feb. 17, KRSC counterterrorism forces rescued a Swedish girl, 15-year-old Marlin Stivani Nivarlain, in the heart of IS-controlled territory near Mosul.
