Kurdish parties, foreign diplomats play friendly match

Kurdistan Region political parties and foreign diplomats were involved in a friendly football match in Erbil on Saturday.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region political parties and foreign diplomats were involved in a friendly football match in Erbil on Saturday.

The friendly match, which ended in a 9-9 draw, was organized by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Foreign Relations Office. According to the head of the office, all political parties were invited to participate in the match.

Hemin Hawrami, Head of the KDP Foreign Relations Office told Kurdistan24 that all political parties were informed about the game.

“Some political parties might not have had players available for the match,” Hawrami said.

Abdulsatar Majid, the Minister of Agriculture and a member of the Islamic Group party, shared his thoughts about the event. “This is an opportunity for the political parties to gather here with most of the foreign diplomats in the Kurdistan Region,” he stated.

“This [friendly match] means that it is possible to have different opinions, political differences and issues, but we are all living in our homeland, Kurdistan,” Majid added.

Omed Khoshnaw, a member of parliament from the KDP bloc, hoped that this match helps the political parties put aside political interests for the sake of Kurdistan.

“As we were representing Kurdistan today, we should all become the players of Kurdistan, not the political parties anymore, and work for the victory of Kurdistan alone,” Khoshnaw told Kurdistan24.

Speaking to a Kurdistan24 reporter, Konrad Adamowicz, the Polish Consul in Erbil, said, “This game is a great opportunity for the diplomatic core and to bring together the Kurdistan Region politicians to put aside their political differences.”
