Suicide bomber targets Christian event in Qamishlo, Rojava

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – On Sunday, a suicide car bomb targeted a Christian event in the Kurdish city of Qamishlo, Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava). 

Kurdistan24 reporter Farhad Ahme stated that the explosion took place on al-Quwatli road, heavily populated by Christian Assyrians, next to El-Kindi Park in Qamishlo.

The car bomb was reportedly targeting a Christian event in Amal Center.

“The suicide bomber was dressed as a priest and aimed to target the event where some senior Christians were also present,” Ahme said, stating that an eyewitness saw the suicide bomber.

Ahme also mentioned that Christian security guards in the area fired at the car bomb and detonated it before the vehicle reached its intended area.

“The explosion injured six people and killed two,” he added.

Ambulances and firefighters rushed to the scene of the blast and delivered the wounded people to the nearest hospitals.

On May 14, two separate explosions targeted Qamishlo and the town of Tal Abyad that killed two Kurdish security personnel’s and wounded two others.

On April 30, another suicide attack hit the northeastern city of Qamishlo in the early morning, killing and wounding many civilians.
