‘Kurds are entitled to statehood’
WASHINGTON, United States (Kurdistan24) – Speaking to Kurdistan24, the Chairman and Founder of Ibn Khaldun Center in Cairo said that it is now time the powers in different countries support the Kurds.
Saad Eddin Ibrahim, who has represented minority rights across the Middle East and the Arab world, told Kurdistan24 he supports the rights of the Kurds.
“The Kurdish problem has been one of the main problems I’ve dealt with,” the Chairman explained.
“I believe the Kurdish people are entitled to have not only their rights but if they wanted to have their state, they should have it,” he added.
Ibrahim also revealed that he had the “honor” of meeting Kurdish leaders, especially President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani.
Additionally, he stated that President Barzani and other Kurdish officials were invited to attend several conferences in Cairo.
The Founder of the Ibn Khaldun Center praised the Kurds’ inclusiveness and positive contribution in the region and added that they deserve sovereignty.
“Every group in the region should be sovereign over its own destiny, and that includes the Kurds, people who are very brave, people who have contributed to our national struggle, and people who are in solidarity with everybody else in the region,” Ibrahim declared.
He added that it is time for other majorities in the region and around the world to back Kurds and their desire for independence.
“It is now our turn as a majority in different countries to support the Kurdish people,” Ibrahim concluded.
