KRG responds to Iranian official's allegations

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) responded on Monday to recent threats and allegations made by an Iranian official.

In a statement published on its website, the KRG responded to the official who accused Saudi Arabia of using Kurdistan Region’s soil to attack Iran.

The official also threatened that Iran will launch a military operation against the Region and that President Masoud Barzani must be held responsible.

Mohsen Rezayee, Secretary of Deciding Interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said during an interview with Iran’s Channel One TV that if the Kurdistan Region officials do not stop the Saudi Arabian interference, they will attack the Region.

“The Saudi Arabia Consulate in Erbil has opened a military training base and two centers on the Iranian border and is sending armed groups to Iran to disrupt the safety and security of the country,” Rezayee added.

According to the KRG report, there is a joint security committee between Kurdistan and Iran. If such an issue occurs, the committee will discuss and resolve it.

The KRG urged Rezayee to “present his evidence to the committee for follow up” if his allegations are true.

“All the information mentioned by [Rezayee] regarding the recent incidents on the border are false and baseless,” the statement read.

“The security and stability of the Islamic Republic of Iran are of importance to the Kurdistan Region,” the statement added.

“We are keen to strengthen the relations, joint work, and friendship between Iran and the Kurdistan Region,” the KRG statement concluded.

Previously, the Saudi Arabia Consulate in Erbil denied allegations by Iran that they support the Iranian opposition party to launch attacks inside the country.

The Consulate in Erbil released a statement on June 25 denying any involvement with the allegations announced by some Iranian officials.

“What has been published in Fars News Agency is baseless and untrue, and we deny the accusation attributed to the Consulate officials,” the statement read.
