US Congressman: ‘I support taking care of Peshmerga’
CLEVELAND, United States (Kurdistan24) – In a recent interview, a US Congressman expressed his support for Kurds and Peshmerga forces in particular.
US Congressman John R. Carter, the representative for Texas’ 31st congressional district, spoke about his backing for Kurdistan and the US’ relationship with the Kurds if Donald Trump is elected President.
“This is a turning point for our country this year and, hopefully, for the future, we’re going to become a country we can be proud of,” Carter said. “Right now we’re not so proud.”
He mentioned the success of the Kurds in their battle against the Islamic State (IS) and agreed that they should continue to receive military support.
“I support the Kurds, they have stood strong and fast, and they’re doing a great job, and we’re proud of them, they should be armed,” Carter stated.
Asked about Kurdistan’s desire for independence, the Congressman said that Kurds had earned the US’ “respect.”
“[The Kurds] have earned, as far as I’m concerned, America’s respect because they have stood fast and been our ally through hard times,” Carter said.
He was also confident about Trump’s chances of becoming the next President of the US and believes that the Republican candidate will support the Kurds.
“Trump will be our President, and I think [he] will do the right thing by those who stand up for America, and the Kurds have stood up for the [US],” the Congressman affirmed.
Carter also spoke about the Kurdish Peshmerga and reassured that their struggle has not gone unnoticed.
“I am for taking care of Peshmerga,” he concluded.
