VIDEO: ‘Peshmerga show right discipline in fight against IS’

CLEVELAND, United States (Kurdistan24) – During the recent Republican National Convention in the United States, a US politician praised the Peshmerga’s success against the Islamic State (IS).

Lee Zeldin, an American lawyer and politician representing New York’s first congressional district, spoke to Kurdistan24 about Peshmerga victories, Kurdish independence, and the conflict in the Middle East.

“As far as the fight against [IS] right now in the Middle East, we’re seeing those Kurdish forces bring the fight in Iraq to [them],” he said.

“[Peshmerga] have the right discipline, they’re showing the right ability with tactics to bring defeat to [IS] and those who are trying to establish a caliphate in that region,” Zeldin added.

The politician also discussed Kurdistan’s independence stating that several “different scenarios” can occur but that those directly involved have to decide.

“I don’t think it really is the responsibility of the rest of the world to be deciding exactly how Iraq and the different coalitions, the different elements within Iraq [split],” Zeldin said.

He added that it is up to the Kurds, Sunnis, and Shias to decide and “figure out what the future should look like” in the region.

Moreover, Zeldin also addressed the conflict in the Middle East and warned that the danger “has far-reaching consequences” in the US.

“There are so many issues going on in the Middle East, Europe, all around the world and right here [in the US],” he said.

“There are threats abroad; all of that threat that is abroad is here in America too, and will be more and more if we don’t deal with that threat,” Zeldin concluded.
