CLEVELAND, United States (Kurdistan24) – During the recent Republican National Convention, a politician said the current US administration made a mistake allowing Iran to arm itself with nuclear weapons.

Geoffrey G. Diehl, a Republican who represents the Seventh Plymouth District of Massachusetts, spoke to Kurdistan24 about the upcoming US presidential elections, the conflict in the Middle East, and the threat of Iran.

Regarding the US presidential election, Diehl stated that Donald Trump would ensure the military is “involved” in the battle against terrorism.

“[Trump] obviously has made it very clear that for America he wants to make sure that we’re involved, our military’s involved in engagements that are important to America first and foremost,” he stated.

“[Trump] wants to make sure rules of engagement are such that our soldiers can come in and do the job they’re asked to do without having their hands tied behind their back,” Diehl added.

The State Representative also mentioned that when elected, Trump would make sure “the military is engaged when and where necessary.”

He discussed the war in the Middle East and said Trump would have a stronger “analysis” of the US military in the region.

“I’m certain [Trump’s] going to have a much better analysis and support of the military and who their allies are in the Middle East when he takes over,” Diehl said.

The Massachusetts representative also mentioned Iran’s nuclear threat and why it was a mistake for current US President Barack Obama to negotiate a deal with them.

“Allowing Iran to arm itself with nuclear weapons is a huge mistake, the agreement that Obama entered into with them [is] certainly not good for America,” he argued.

“Trump wants to make sure, again, we work for Americans first and our allies first, our strong allies, and not allow countries like Iran to take advantage of us,” Diehl concluded.
