WASHINGTON, United States (Kurdistan24) – A US Congressman recently warned that allowing Iran to continue its nuclear program would be a “disaster” for the Middle East.

Ryan Zinke, a Republican Congressman representing Montana’s at-large congressional district, discussed Iran’s influence in the region and said the US has to be cautious with the way they pressure Tehran.

“Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, it will destabilize the entire region,” he stated.

“We have to be very, very careful,” Zinke continued. “It’s going to be an arms race and a disaster.”

The Congressman pointed to the current US administration and blamed them for allowing Iran to build its nuclear program despite violations of UN sanctions.

He added that the US’ allies in the region would feel threatened and lose trust in America’s ability to help them when required.

“The US is paying [Iran] billions of dollars to develop missile systems which their neighbors are very nervous about,” Zinke said.

“When you have an administration…that continues to ignore violations of UN sanctions, what that does is it causes doubt among our key allies in the region,” he explained.

The Congressman also discussed the US presidential elections and said he is “convinced” that Donald Trump will be the next president.

Zinke mentioned that Trump is an ideal choice who would “surround himself with great leaders that are experienced.”

“America needs to lead from the front and make sure that our allies understand that we mean business,” he stated.

“Right now our allies don’t trust us and our enemies don’t fear us,” Zinke said. “So we have to show leadership.”
