WATCH: 'IS amputated my hand before a crowd of spectators'

An Arab resident tells the story of amputating his hand by Islamic State (IS) in the town of Qayyarah, south of Mosul.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) - An Arab resident told Kurdistan24 how the Islamic State (IS) amputated his hand in the town of Qayyarah, south of Mosul.

Abbas is a resident of Qayyarah. In an interview with Kurdistan24, he stated that IS amputated his hand in public after he was arrested for stealing the jihadists' weapons.

He mentioned that IS claimed they were implementing Sharia Law (Islamic Law) in the area.

Abbas noted that after the group took control of the town in June 2014, people of Qayyarah were oppressed and hungry.

On August 25, Iraqi security forces liberated the town.

IS detonated some of the oil wells of Qayyarah before abandoning the area.

Oil continues to flow to some of the neighborhoods of the town and fire erupted from the oil has burnt over 60 houses in the region.
