ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Kirkuk security on Monday confiscated weapons and some other materials from the house of an Islamic State (IS) leader in the province of Kirkuk.

Hunar Ahmad, a Kurdistan24 reporter in Kirkuk, revealed the security had investigated the house of an IS leader named Salim Abid Khalaf.

According to security forces, the insurgent leader is currently in the town of Hawija, west of Kirkuk.

The security also revealed they had confiscated weapons, counterfeit IDs, CDs and computer hardware, communication devices, and a camera.

“The materials are hidden inside the ceiling of the house,” said a security personnel to Kurdistan24.

Additionally, the security mentioned the group created fraud IDs with seals on them so they could write the names of their members.

“They wanted to use the IDs to hide the real identity of their members and grant them new names to be able to enter Kirkuk,” the security said.

Moreover, security noted they had arrested some suspects that are the leader’s family and relatives.

The province alone has over 500,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who fled from the threat of IS from different parts of Iraq.
