Zidane: Real Madrid prepared for Dortmund test

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane said his team is prepared for Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League group match against Germany’s Borussia Dortmund.

DORTMUND, Germany (Kurdistan24) – Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane said his team is prepared for Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League group match against Germany’s Borussia Dortmund.

Last season’s winners Madrid travelled to Germany on Tuesday and will take on Dortmund in matchweek two of the 2016/2017 Champions League group stage at 8:45 p.m. local time.

Both clubs won their opening matches a fortnight ago. Madrid had to come from behind late in the game against opponents Sporting Lisbon from Portugal to record a 2-1 victory.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 89th-minute equalizer was followed by Alvaro Morata’s winner deep into stoppage time to ensure the defending champions avoided embarrassment in front of their home fans.

Dortmund, on the other hand, swept aside Polish opponents Legia Warszawa 6-0. Three goals in either half completed a stunning victory for the German club.

Tuesday night’s match will prove a tough test for both teams as they compete for qualification into the latter stages of the competition.

Speaking during a press conference in Dortmund, Madrid coach Zidane said his team is aware of the threat Dortmund possess, but revealed that his side were prepared.

“We know where we stand. We are Real Madrid and want to win every game,” Zidane said.

The two teams played against each other in the 2013/2014 quarterfinals where Madrid won 3-2 on aggregate score.

However, the season before that saw Dortmund reach the final after defeating Madrid 4-3 on aggregate in the semis. Dortmund would go on to lose to German rivals Bayern Munich 2-1 in the final.

Zidane told the media his side were focused on Tuesday’s match and not concerned about previous results.

“I do not think of the last few games in Dortmund,” he stated. “Every game is different.”
