Reber Ahmed

Reber Ahmed, Kurdistan Region Minister of Interior since 2019, and a candidate of the Iraqi presidency, nominated by the “Saving the Homeland Alliance,” the largest bloc in the Iraqi parliament, consisting of the Sadrist Movement, Al-Siyada Alliance, and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

Ahmed has a military rank (Major General) and was the Head of the Joint Coordination Department of Kurdistan Region Security Council in 2012. Before that, he was the Director of Intelligence Analysis of the Kurdistan Region’s Parastin Agency, 2005-2012. He was the Director of Counter-Organized Crimes for the Defense Department of the Kurdistan Region’s Agency, 2000-2005.

Ahmed obtained a Master’s degree in national security from the Iraqi National Security University in Baghdad in 2007. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Salahaddin University in Erbil in 1997.

He is a native Kurdish speaker and speaks fluent English, Arabic, and Persian.
